The Centre for Agricultural Research and Development (CARD) is a research Centre of the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), formerly Bunda College of Agriculture, under the University of Malawi.
CARD was established in 1994 with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) as a centre of excellence for undertaking high quality and timely policy research in agriculture and rural development, sustainable utilization of natural resources and environmental management.
It is a facility for undertaking cooperative research, consultancy and outreach/training in which LUANAR, Government, NGOs and other cooperating bodies and participants are co-explorers in search for innovative policies and strategies geared towards the promotion and transformation of agriculture and rural development in Malawi.
The general objective of CARD is to provide an institutional infrastructure and capacity for research, training and consultancy in agriculture, food, natural resources and the environment for poverty reduction at household and national levels.

Read moreCARD is a member of the Regional Network of Agricultural Policy Research Institutes (ReNAPRI) - a Pan-African network of agricultural policy research institutes. In his capacity as one of the Board Members of ReNAPRI, CARD Director, Dr. Thabbie Chilongo, on 11 June 2020, witnessed the virtual signing ceremony of an MoU between ReNAPRI and the East African Grain Council.
