1. Introduction and Background

LUANAR Holdings Company Limited (LHCL) incorporated on 13th September 2023 under the Companies Act is a subsidiary and commercial arm of the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR). LHCL has been mandated to operate profitably and sustainably, the LUANAR business entities that include LHCL Farms and Bunda Service Station (Filling Station) based at Bunda Campus. In 2023 LUANAR installed a 20-ha irrigation system within the 500-ha farm located at Bunda Campus of the University. The irrigation system supplied by a borehole hasn’t operated to full capacity since installation. LUANAR Holdings Company Limited is looking for Irrigation Experts/consultants to assess the existing irrigation system at the farm located at LUANAR-Bunda Campus farm by identifying causes of its failure to operate at full capacity and make recommendations on changes to be made to the system for it to work at maximum capacity as detailed below.

2. Objectives
• Evaluate the current performance and efficiency of the irrigation system.
• Identify restrictions to maximum capacity operation such as; pumping capacity, water pressure, clogging, leakages, solar power supply or other structural deficiencies.
• Assess water availability (borehole yield); potential of the existing irrigation system and potential for expansion or improvement.
• Determine irrigation schedules.
• Recommend improvements or modifications to the system to ensure it functions to maximum capacity.

3. Scope of Work:
• Reviewing existing infrastructure.
• Evaluate available water sources and determine their potential for irrigation.

4. Deliverables:
• Prepare a comprehensive assessment report detailing findings, constraints, and recommendations within 15 days of Contract award/signing.
• Technical drawings or designs for proposed improvements.
• Required Training for end-users.

5. Qualifications and Experience of the Consultant
• Minimum Qualification of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Irrigation Engineering, or related fields.
• The firm/Individual should be duly registered and paid-up member of Malawi Engineering Institution.
• Proven track record in irrigation system design, assessment and successful installation.
