Research Interest for: Mr Jonathan TANGANYIKA

Meat Hygiene

Research in meat hygiene focuses on ensuring the safety, quality, and wholesomeness of meat and meat products through proper ante-mortem and post-mortem inspection, hygienic handling, processing, preservation, and food safety practices. The area also explores zoonotic disease prevention, meat-borne public health risks, abattoir management, and regulatory standards aimed at protecting consumers and improving public health outcomes.

Animal Behaviour and Welfare

This research area examines the behavioural patterns, welfare needs, and ethical management of livestock and other animal species under different production systems. It includes studies on stress, housing, handling, nutrition, human–animal interactions, and welfare assessment indicators to promote humane treatment, productivity, health, and sustainable animal production practices.

Animal Health

Research in animal health focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and control of diseases affecting livestock and other animal species. It encompasses epidemiology, biosecurity, disease surveillance, herd health management, zoonotic disease control, veterinary public health, and sustainable strategies aimed at improving animal productivity, welfare, and food safety.

Production of Non-conventional livestock species

This research area focuses on the production, management, nutrition, breeding, and health of non-conventional livestock species such as rabbits, guinea pigs, quails, ducks, guinea fowls, pigs, snails, and other emerging livestock enterprises. The research seeks to promote sustainable livestock diversification, improve household income and food security, and support climate-resilient animal production systems.
